Default 2003 500i front diff bellows

has anyone tryed to raise the front diff air vent bellows up a little higher so the front diff dont suck water. i notist that the front ones are lower then the back ones, and when i draind my diff yesterday the back was ok the front had water. i would like to try and move it up at least as high as the back one and if i do will it affect the ventalation in the diff.

The bellows aren't supposed to leak water....that's why there's bellows instead of a vent tube. The water gets in around the seals.

every time I change my front diff oil it is white. any tips on keeping water out?
would a synthetic oil help after about 6 years of use. i normally change mine about every 3-5 months depending on how much water i ride through.

if the water gets in through the seals then youd think the oil would also leak out, and why dident the rear diff have water in it, because the front ones lower than the rear one look for your self. im thinking of adding a peice of rubber tubeing to it and raising it up as high the back one is and then it should be good then. we ride through a lot of water around here its eather going up the mountain side or trail rideing through the woods down to the river and theres lots of creeks and swamp arias to cross on your way weather its up or down.thats why i asked the question has any one done this befor.

Maybe you didn't hear Dave right? The bellows are a sealed unit they don't leak water unless they are torn ! Maybe the water gets in & the oil don't leak out because the oil level is BELOW the axles !! At any rate if your front diff is leaking in water you have a bad seal somewhere, sometime grass will wrap around the axle housing & keep the seal from sealing try checking for debree there.

i heard him ok but when your front end is under water for 20 mins i think the bellows will take on water there not leak proof there just better than a strait vent tube.

Madblaster; Listen carefully, they ARE SEALED, they do NOT LEAK, water can't leak thru plastic unless it's ripped or torn!! If it's leaking at the fitting it's not tight enough. Look elsewhere for your leak.

Do the bellows let out air form the diffs? If so water will get in if air can get out.
