I looked at an auto 500 for the first time today and noticed the same thing. I think that its there, but plugged back into another little thing, possibly to keep it from just hanging free and exposed. Its not a cigarette lighter type though, its a pigtail. Like a trailer light plug on a truck only with two wires instead of 4 or even 8 (which doesn't look the same anyway. My 500 has it, but it just hangs out there to the right of the storage box. I doubt I ever use it.

For about 10 bucks you can convert it to a cigarette lighter type plug in. Ask yout dealer about it, or look in the 2000 Arcticwear and accesory catalog.

That is a good point. You could also get a cigarette adapter from any auto parts store, and wire it up yourself. You would probably have to rig up a way to mount it to where it looked good though. I did notice that the electrical things on the automatic are positioned differently than my 99 500. The battery compartment is now a metal sided guard under the plastic behind the seat. It is still protected from physical damage, but is a little more exposed to the elements than the plastic compartment of the older model. Also, rigging up the hydraulic rear brake assembly on an older 500 would take quite a bit of work, and new parts.

No, Boner, the accessory pigtail will NOT work with a winch!

A typcial ATV winch draws around 100-150 amps at full pull; fuzing your accessory outlet at anything over 15 amps would be pushing it. The primary electrical equipment fuze on your machine is probably only 30 amps for all electrical equipment; starter, lights, ignition, etc.

You must wire heavy-gauge wires directly to your battery if you want the wiring to last any longer than, as someone struggling to remain polite once told me, "a snowball in Hades!"

The heavy-gauge wire you need will come with your winch.

I FOUND IT!!!!!!!! I was removing the useless storage box and there it was. they stuff it right behind the box. The salesman didn't even think they actually had the pig tail in the back. I think I might use it to try to power my rear winch(if I ever get it).

Any body think it would work with the winch?

I don't think runing the acbles to the battery will be to hard since it is less tha a foot from where I want to mount the winch.

I think I might go with a Super Winch in the back. Why? Because I dought the winch will last as long as the one in the front(because of more mud and water being thrown on it) and Super Winch is cheaper.

Now should I go with the 1500 model or the 2000 model?

If its basically an experimental thing, then I would go cheap with the 1500. Chances are, you wont have to use the rear mounted winch very often anyway, and the 1500 will probably pull you out of whatever you get into decent enough.

The reason I want a rear winch is so that if ther are no trees in front of me there is a way to ge out if there is on in the back.

There is a hole like this were I ride. The hole is about 3 feet from the road and the only possible way to get threw it is to go from the woods. I don't think the people would be very happy if they ran INTO a winch cable thats in the middle of the road.

I could also use the 2 winches to turn my self if I ge cought between 2, or more, trees(it has happened before).

Boner... Winch's are completely sealed units, so where ever you put it, I don't think you need to be concerned about mud and water.
