Default How do they work??

Thinking lately of a dyno jet kit, but am wondering if they are really worth it cause I think they are pretty expensive (not really sure of the cost exactly) but isnt it just an assortment of jets?? And what makes it better than stock jets?? Thanks.

The kit also contains a special needle designed to work with the jet kit, but you are right, it is a lot for a few jets and a needle. I guess you are paying for the work and engineering that went into making it. They do seem to work, some have seen a good response it bottom end and overall power. The final decision is up to you, if you mod your motor, you can probably rejet with stock jets and still get a good power increase with a lot less money.

Im hesitant myself doob, i just went to a mikuni 150 on mine, with the new muffler. A very noticible difference. Id hate to spend 90 bux on the jets and get nothing.

VooDoo I have done the muffler mod and had to rejet from 150 to a 155, and got a noticable power gain, and no more bogging in the mud, that was exactly what I was looking for, cause I would get half way through a mud hole just to get stuck cause it would bog on me (or sputter however you want to describe it) But after rejetting my plug is a nice tan color. But I have to bring it in and get the valves adjusted (it says in the owners manual to do it after 100 mi, and I have 300 now) and I am also wondering about getting the float level checked, I have been reading about a few people that have checked it and it has been way out, but I dont know how to do it so I think I will get the shop to do it when it is there. Oh yea I burried myself the other day in some sand on a river bed, the bottom just dropped out on me and I couldnt go anywhere, when I got winched out the guy pulling me just about got pulled in behind me!! I was in there good, I will post pics when I get my new scanner.

wolvy is right. its the needle. i don't know about exchange rates but from HL its about $50. and if you don't like the jets you get, call them and they will send you whatever jet(s) you want for free. they just put them in envelopes and mail them through the post office. when you buy a dynojet kit you are buying the needle.

doober,
If you are not bogging in the mud, I think you have the right jet. here is how you set your float height.

Float Adjustment
Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the carburetor and the throttle cables to adjust the float height.
1. Hold the carburetor in a position where the float arm tang will just close the float valve without compressing the spring-loaded pin in the end of the float valve needle. To avoid possible damage, do not press the float against the float valve.
2. Float Height 17mm (0.7in.)
3. Position the float height gauge against the carburetor body. If the gauge has been set to the specified float height, it should just touch the float without causing the float to move.
4. If the float height is not correct, carefully bend the float arm tang toward or away from the float valve until the specified float height is obtained. Replace a float that is damaged or extremely misaligned. Remember that vent tube routing is critical. Any change in the stock routing of the tubes may pinch the tubes or create low pressure.
I check and all (250 to 500) the float height are the same 17mm or 0.7 inch or 44.8/64 of a inch (my carb tool is in 64th of a inch.
I hope this helps.
ps I bought the Dynojet kit because I was bogging in the mud only to find out float was set to high, at least by a 1/4 inch. ran rich all the time, but now it runs great (where did all that power come?) It's like a new bike.

doobs: cant wait for the pics. sounds like you are getting it dialed in. my float was off last time i stripped the carb. it gets out of wack from beating the bike around over a period of mths for me. mine is specd at .5in nothing wrong with having the valves checked. my dealer says the same as all... "we never have to adjust them"

i might get the dyno... but i want a lift more.

Got my bike back, they checked the valves on it, and they had to adjust the intake, it was to tight, so because they actually had to do somethingm they are putting it through on warranty!! They told me it is rare that they actually have to adjust them also and the float level was good. Good "stuck" pics Voodoo. And yea the machine runs excellent now. But if anyone has ridden with one of those 400 outlanders the cats cant touch them. Except in the mud. but the cats also dont look like a toy like those outlanders.
