Based only on my observations, the most common ways out of bogs seem to me:

1) Rocking, weight-shifting, backing/filling by the rider; if unsuccessful,

2) Tow straps/ropes/chains and buddies; if alone,

3) Winches/comealongs.

There may be other extraction techniques; I've seen the ones mentioned in action.

With a last name like Tippins I had to check and see but I knew you were from South Georgia! (By the way I'm from around the Swainsboro area) As far as getting unstuck I listed a few suggestions inthe Other topic forum if you wanna check there. There are also a few other good post there!

p.s.: Hey let me know if there are any mud bogs down that way!

You may get a chuckle out of this but I bogged down once on my 425 Magnum and didn't have anyone to help me out and after looking the situation over I grabbed the left running board and lifteed the Quad up on its sideand it stood there laying on its wheels(I was afraid it might roll over on the Handle Bars)I then proceded to fill the ruts I had dug with wood when I got them full I tipped the machine back on its wheels and drove right out.

Way to go Kagey. That's not a bad idea.

The way I got out today was by no means fun. Got stuck big time in leaf mold in a creekbed part of a lake that is very low right now. Framed out big time. About a foot of water when I started, but after I had spun out the leaf crap and walked around in it for about 30 mins, it was up to my thighs. Nothing to winch to, but a bunch of big rocks on a point directly to my left. Hooked the cable up and winched it sideways until it was almost flipped on its side, then got under and dug out the leaves and crap with my hands. Then I backed out with some rocking motion helping me. I was wet up to my stomach, my boots were filled with water, and I was covered with leaves. The cable was pinched between the two big rocks I hooked up to so I bashed the cable with a rock until it broke, took the hook off of the pieces wedged in the rocks and headed the two miles back to the truck soaked to the bone in 50 degree weather and it was almost dark. I do not recommend this situation to anyone.
