1. i would do the muffler mod
2. cover the carb drain with a automotive carb vacuum cap
3. make sure the pink carb breather hose is high and dry
the carb drain will probly fix your problem but the back pressure on that crappy stock pipe is sometimes too much especially when its under water.

Hey Catsmeow by muffler mod. do you mean replacing it with a performance muffler or is there something you can do to the factory one. If you mean replacing can you do that and not void your warranty(I was going to call my dealer for this info but if you can tell me then that's even better).

I had that problem with my 03 AC 400 bogging in the water. I think it was moisture getting in around the spark plug cover. I did some searches the forums and the suggestion I got was to get some dielectric grease and put it in the spark plug cover and on the spark plug. That fixed my problem.
Hope this helps

dirteater, either one. you can replace the factory muff, or remove about half of the baffles in the stock muffler and cut the little nipple outlet off and patch it then cut a 2" or so hole in the end of the muffler.

You may want to consider steam rising from the engine to the intake which is directly above Often happens on my machine but does not seem to be electrical as it clears up after a minute or so even tho still sitting in water.

this sounds like a classic case of the muffler problem. i would just about bet the house this is the problem. do a snorkel are gut the muffler and the problem will go away. all the other things are good to do as well: put dielectical grease on the spark plug, plug the carb drain, run the carb vent up.

I just had a similar issue today. Went flying into a few big mud puddles and the thing died. I let it sit and idle (it would die if you gave it gas) for a few minutes and it was fine. It happened two different times. I washed it when I got home and left it running, but could not duplicate the problem. Any other ideas or common related problems?
