Default 650 fit

I'm looking at buying a new truck and assume that I need a 'long box' if I want to buy the 650. Will the 650 fit in a short box with the tailgate closed. My dealer says yes but he just wants to sell. Has anyone actually put one into a short box? (with a winch if it makes a difference). Thanx.

WELL it depends if you want ex cab or regular cab ? my 650 if its the same length as yours will fit in a single cad full size with the tailgate up fine but an extended cab its very tight you have to slam the tailgate and it pushes so hard on the front of the bed it will bend. and it also will tap on your back glass. thats not a good thing"smash" and this is in a ford 97-2004 models . now the chevy has a little more room on both . but to answer your question yes it will fit ----------------- sort of (lol)

I believe it would fit in a Chevy/GMC short-bed, extended cab with the tailgate up. I have a folding bed cover, so my 650 sticks out onto the tailgate. If I didn't have the cover, I think it would go in easily with the gate shut. I have a Silverado with the extended cab and short bed.

I saw a magazine test that said a full size ATV will not fit in the bed of the new Dodge extended cab. I think they said the same about the Ford, but I'm not sure.

trailride & Dan W:

Thanx for the quick reply. I am looking for an extended cab (possible 'quad doors'). Looks like the dodge is out and the GMC/Chev might be the answer. I will have to do some exact measuring before I buy. I do want to close the tailgate so I can haul all the extras when going fishing etc.

AC's brochure says the bike is 81" long and a normal short box (Ford) is supposed to be 6.5 ft. (78").

shmoky,

I have a 2003 F150 extended cab with short bed. My AC650 fits in, and the tailgate closes, when backed in. The winch makes it tighter, I also have the warn winch installed as well. The tailpipe comes within 3/4" of the rear window, but with tie downs and the brake lock on, never comes near hitting. On the front of the bike the roller pins that guide the winch cable are almost, but not touching the tailgate. Keep in mind, the length of the bike is measured to the bumpers, which are so high, they fit over the tailgate and the front of the box. IT FITS!!!!

Driving down the ramp is no problem, reversing up the ramp is not much fun though..

My 650 fits just fine in my 2000 F350 Super Duty its a Ex-Cab Shortbox. The AC winch mounts pretty flush so it won't stick out of the front to far. What I do is I have a 2x6 screwed to a 4x4 that I lay in front of the tires of the ATV across the bed of the truck tight to the cab. This prevents the atv from going through the rear window during a panic stop. The 2x6 side goes towards the atv, so that the tires wont pop over it. The brake is locked as well. The tailgate will have slight presure on it from the rear wheels but not much. Hey it works for me.

This must be with stock tires? My 03 400i with 27" Buggs will not allow the tailgate to close on my 03 Ford F150 ext cab shortbox.

The Ford F150's Shortboxes with 6.5 ft bed boxes. 78.8"
The Ford Superduties SB's have 6.75 ft bed boxes. 82.4"
For my Ford Superduty SB I made a minature headache rack, which sits about 4 inches high on the front pickup box. Even with the 4wheeler tied down in the bed, I still had problems with my Cat moving up & down & almost taking out the rear pickup window on one rough dirt road, the minature rack now keeps any 4wheeler away from the rear window, no matter what type of road you are on.
