I'm on my fourth light reset. Was suppose to go into the dealer, but
Arctic Cat says it has no idea yet what is causing this. All the people out here keep talking about a loose belt, remove shims, and put in a black spring. My dealer says if it was the belt you could not simply reset the light by jumping the grey and orange wires. They are looking into a voltage spike that's causing this. If the belt was loose or damaged you would have to go into the case, belt area, and reset the switch. Kind of like a light switch, then you could jump your wires. Only thing we've done so far is replace the battery(same problem still).
I'm asked to be patient.
PS. I do like my dealer, nothing against them, but AC better get their butts in gear. To much money spent. I also really like the machine (when
it works.

Go ahead and do the shim and spring, you will like results even if it doesn't fix light problem. From what I have heard from our A/C rep and a friend that works for a Kaw dealer that should fix your problem. We have only had one do this, was at 47 miles, reset and have not had problem again.

In case you haven't heard, your problem may be due to the electrical spike that you did mention. Cat has come out with hopefully a fix, a Limp-mode reset plug, part # 0486-161. This #-161 replaces the # 0486-144 which was the Cat jumper wires.
This Reset plug will short the wires together. Your Dealer can order this Part # -161 now.
My -161 will be in by Saturday.

This Reset plug will short the wires together allowing the spike to be over ridden & not putting the 650 into the limp-mode. Your Dealer can order this Part # -161 now.
My -161 will be in by Saturday & will be installed.
Unless your belt is out of adjustment, this reset harness plug should fix your problem, let us know how it turns out.
Bearcat,

Great info! I wasn't aware of the two part #'s. I just got my 161 in today. If I understand you correctly, this is something that you plug in and leave?? This "plug" just has one wire that loops around.

Thanks Bearcat,

I have printed your message and will be going to the dealer Sat. to see if they've got the word yet!
We have two other machines here having the same problem. Hopefully we will come out of this. Have you installed the black spring on your machine? Again, Thank You!

This #-161 is only a $9 part & is a Cat recommended part. By doing your own soldering & if you continue to have problems or other problems, then you could end up voiding your warranty, is it worth it for $9?
My Black Spring will be going in this weekend, as I wanted to be sure to have the extra shims if I need them, (all of my shims that I ordered are in).
Hopefully my reset plug harness will be here before this Holiday weekend.

OK, I have a UPDATE on this belt harness reset plug, as mine came in:

All this plug does is reset your flashing belt lite to turn off.
This plug will be plug into the 4-pin connector & then just follow the instructions to reset the belt light.
By having this Reset plug, it is now a 4-step process instead of the 13-steps with using the jumper wires.
After the 4th step is done, then you must REMOVE the reset-plug, until it is needed the next time.
If the Belt light is still flashing after the reset attempt, then you may want to pull your coverterer housing & see if the belt switch was activated.

So this is just a Bandaid fix & until Cat can figure it out why this is happening, I'll be sure to keep my reset plug/instructions with my Cat 650.

Bearcat, Thanks for the update. So what was the cause of your AC going into limp mode, was it electrical or was your switch tripped? Is it out of limp mode now? I hope AC comes out with a more permanent fix. It would also be nice to hear something from them about this situation. I may try to talk to someone at AC that can let us know where their at on trying to solve this problem. Once in limp mode is enough. Can you imagine being 35 or 40 miles into a difficult trail & having your Cat go into the limp mode. I lucked out there , i was only 3 miles from home when
it happened to me. Keep us posted Bearcat, i know you're on top of this thing with both feet.
Regards, Jerico

Hey Jerico1:
I was breaking trail thru about a foot deep of snow for about 3 miles & a steady up hill climb, in low range 4x4, took a break on the top of the hill, started off again & WHAM! my 650 went into the limp-mode. I wasn't very happy!! I limp- "home"-mode back to the truck at a slow 9mph & 15 miles later, that took 40 minutes to drive. Turned out the "Belt" did trip the trigger. At least I still had the 4x4 mode working even with the limp-"home"-mode engage, as I knew I had to climb out of 1 snowy canyon which 2wd surely wouldn't of cut it.
Belt was then tighten at the Dealership but I still feel it is not right & I will do the next tightening myself this weekend, black spring is going in too.
I took it out for a good test a couple weeks ago, tried real hard to get it to go into the limp-"Home"-mode but it never did but my engine braking is not up to par as it was with my Prairies, which is a good sign of a loose belt. I will reshim & install the Black spring, that should take care of my braking & the loose belt.
I've done this Belt Deflection (Tightening) before with both of my Prairies as my Prairie 650s also had too loose of Belts from the factory.
Getting back to the limp-mode lite flashing, I'm sure Cat is working on it. Could be something as simple as the sensor that trips the belt light at the magic 100 hours of use are faulty or worse there is a serious wiring screw-up somewhere. Time will tell.
