Default Top end bog

Was riding today and was running it pretty hard getting through some snow. After riding out of the wooded area and getting on a slight up hill smooth road , it seemed to bog down and would only pull about 30 mph. road a little farther pulled over and reved it up boged then seemed to get better turned iut off and it backfired. Let it sit for a while had a soda. Fired it back up seemed to run better, anyone else had a issue like this with a 500?

Well, I have not had a problem. now the ignition is a CDI and it has like a rev limiter and this happens when the rev limiter sees how high the RPS are. Try to disconnect the battery for a few min then try again. If that does not help take a look at the cdi box. I think it is mounted near the airbox on the frame.

Try looking at your fuel delivery system. Make sure the choke is OFF, the gas is on, check the float bowl vent. It is a pink tube that is under the seat. Another thing that has happened to my 500i, when riding in deep mud, sometimes the fuel tank vent tube gets clogged up. Make sure that vent is clear. Try these things out and see if any help.

I ride in snow lots. After a period of hard running my 500i will sometimes bog like yours. Usually the fix is to cool the fuel supply down either by adding cold fuel from a jerry can or throw lots of snow on the carb and fuel tank. Pain in the neck as it usually occurs when you most need the power. I believe it is due to snow build up around the front of the machine which limits airflow and the engine heat rises and warms up the gas in the tank enough that it vapor locks when it is drawn into the carb. Interestingly the engine itself is usually not overheated, fan not running etc. Some of the guys I ride with have installed overide swicth on the fan so they can run the fan continuosly. this helps some.
