Default Warn Winch

Whats up all, I am looking to be putting on a warn and was just wondering if the 2500 is sufficent to get me out of the mess or will it bog down. Is the 3000 a over kill. I found the 2.5c with the mounting plate and roller fairlead dealer special For $299.00 I dont think I can beat that any where.

The 2.5 is more than sufficient. The ideal formula is 2.5 x operating weight. Your atv is around 650 or so lbs + whatever you weigh, say 200lbs, so to be conservative, you are looking at 900 lbs. That's 2250 lbs. You are covered. I've pulled my 650 off the bottom of a sandy creek where its tires were 3/4 under the sand. It was not only out of that, but up a 9 foot incline that was probably at a 70 degree angle, over roots and through mud, with me on it. My 375 with the 2500 lb Warn did the job without breaking much of a sweat. Also, remember that the less wire that is on the drum, the more pulling power you have. If you get a ****** block, it effectively doubles the pulling weight, so I can't imagine ANY situation you can't get out of. Heck, I've pulled Jeeps out when they were stuck and I was on solid ground.

It is basically a pulley. You hook it to whatever you are pulling and run the cable through the pulley and back to your atv. It will retrieve half as fast, but pull twice as much. You can also use them to pull from different angles by using trees, etc. When you get a Warn winch, it will come with a booklet for safe and proper technique. You might even be able to find information on-line at www.warn.com. Maybe do an internet search for "safe winching" or "winching techniques" or just "winching" to find info.

I've yet to need a ****** block for extra pulling power. My 2500 has taken care of anything I've asked of it. But it is nice to know you can do more, if needed, without a bigger winch.

Hope this helps.

You can buy a Super Winch 3000 ATV winch for $ 300.00 from Northern Tool. I have the 2500 Warn ATV and Think it is well made and easy to use. I do not know how good Super Winch is but I might buy one for my old Coot.

I had the 2000# SuperWinch on my King Quad and I thought it was a piece of junk, reason are; 25 foot of cable, lack of a roller fairlead or even a Hawse fairlead and the fact it overheats and quit. I will not ever buy another SuperWinch/Tusk. I have a Warn 2.5 on my Kodiak and I have a Warn 2.0 that I will put on my wifes TimberWolf this spring. Oh, one other thing the the lever on the side to freespool would not work after the 3 or 4 time so I had to power out and back in causing battery drain. My 2 cents. I also bought it from Northern Tools and it was around 300 bucks and the Warn 2.0 I got here in Anchorage for 300 bucks. AlaskaBoy.

Thanks Alaska Boy for the warning about Super Winch. I guess I will stay with Warn 3000 or Ramsey3000 for the Old Coot. I guess you get what you pay for. By the way do you know what a Coot is?
