Default 650 belt question

ON my 04 650 when I go to take off easy it seems the motor revvs a smidge then the bike moves. It does not seem crisp. When it is off and in gear you can push it very easily with little drag. I removed the cover and the belt seems awful loose to me. I do not know how tight it should be but if you push the top of the belt down it will move over an inch. The belt light is not on. Does this mean it is time to go see the dealer or is this just the joys of a belt?? Any info would be great!!

Default 650 belt question

The Kawi spec is 27 to 22 mm deflection using a flat bar placed across the belt and measuring with 13 lbs of downforce on the belt. Mine was like yours.....I suspect most are on the loose side. I've been told that for good belt life you want to be on the tight side of the spec. I changed the spring in my secondary (driven) clutch and at that time I removed one of the shims in the clutch. This makes the secondary narrrower and tightens the belt. Good instructions and tips: HERE
