start-in-gear
#1
I own a 98` ac500 4x4 which has to be started in neutral. As most of us know, the 99` and newer models can be started in gear. My question is can my 98` be converted to start in gear like the newer models? Any input will be appreciated.

Go to the honda page and find a post by gordon banks. Get his email address off of it and send him something talking about the start in gear thing. He will tell you how you can do it. He has wired all of his quads (honda 300, prarie 400, suzuki 500, honda 450) to where he can start them in gear. He is familiar with which wires to mess with. Thats the best advice I can give.

OK here's how it's done. You can use a button on the bars or a relay attached to the brake light. Connect to the blue wire with the white tracer @ the reverse switch right below the reverse lever. Run a wire from this point to your button or relay and attach so that it will be grounded to the frame of the bike (or BAT- terminal) when the button is pushed. This will bypass the neutral relay and enable the starter.

Are you saying that you can wire it right into the start button so when you hit start it will work? I couldnt understand...what exactly keeps it from starting in gear?
