Just Bought an 03' 400 FIS. Few Q's
#1
Hi, I just bought an 03' 400 FIS and I have a few questions.
1. The indicator lights don't work(neatrual or reverse). Only the High beam does. There was a 03' 500 that they didn't work on either. Is this common? How do you replace them?
2. Is it normal for the side cover on the tranny to get HOT. I can only compare this to my old 01' polaris that was cool as a cucumber.
3. What is the recommended oil? (Viscosity) (I do not have an owners manual)

one question at a time
1.)take of the housing and you have to unscrew the lock washer that hold the key ignition. Then just swap out the bulbs. It pretty easy.
2.) A/C run hotter than other quads i don't know why.
3.) 0w-40 synthetic or 15w-50 if you live in texas lol.

I would check the neutral and reverse switches and then the indicator light bulbs.
The clutch cover will and does get pretty hot.
10/40 in the summer 5/30 in the winter, or you can use the Arctic Cat synthetic that is good year around.

Thanks for the quick replys. So then there are bulbs under the instument cluster. Ok i'll dig into that tomorrow. I really need to find an owners manual or a service manual before i go crazy

i believe the clutch cover gets hotter then others cause it is metal and that holds the heat better then plastic but trust me you want metal cause when everything gets hot and you get in the cold water metal won't warp and seep in water into your clutch and did you try looking under the seat for the owners manual?

Just a quick update. I removed the indicator pod and it is a sealed unit! Does this thing have L.E.D's? Andy, I checked the fuses under the seat, they were all ok. Or am I missing something?

Man I don't know. My AC was a 99 and was totally different on the indicator lights. They changed it in 2000 or 2001. Mine had bulbs, and all you had to do was replace them.
Somebody on here has to know something about this one. If not, you might try the HL forum or something. I never post on Highlifter really, but if I do have a question I need answered, I'll throw it on there to see if I can get a bite.
