FASTCAT7806, I have a 2001 2X4 AC250 and when trail riding here in the NW I seem to stay up with the 400, 500, 650 and 700 machines just fine and I qualify as old, they don't. I have climbed all the same hills, trails and mountains they have and gotten stuck less often. I'm smarter than they are and I have the only winch in the group. Oh yeah, I do all this on about a fourth the gas they do. The only things I didn't like about it I have changed. Like the shift cable and the hitch and ground clearance. It carries my deer out just fine and me and a hunting partner in. The only thing the bigger machines do is burn more gas, causing shorter range and go faster on the straights, big deal, who cares. I've been faster on water than any of them can go on their quads.

The lift kit gave me 2 5/8" of lift, measured, which is more than they said it would. I went from 8 3/8" unloaded to 11" and that makes for 10 5/8" with my rearend on board along with the gear I carry. The reciever is really handy, I have a slug that has a tie-off and ****** block mount on it. Real nice for towing someone or giving them a place to winch off of. Also move the trailers or boats around the yard. Have been thinking of putting a receiver on the front too. I have a front one on my truck to launch the boats when the camper is in the bed.

It seems that everybody picks on one quad or another to slag! I own a raptor fast sporty lots of fun, my wife has the 2004 arctic cat 250 4x4 and all I can say is I'm impressed not super quick but reliable ,affordable and fun, does anything that the larger motor quads will do,and my wife is not a speed demon so getting a more powerful one would of been a waste of money for us .And the gas mileage is awesome.I can get that 250 into places where I can,t with the raptor because my rappy is widened, the ride on the ac is like a cadillac,I have nothing bad to say about this unit at all!! and a two year warranty who else has a two year warranty, yamaha wanted to sell me a extended warranty for more money!! thumbs up for this quad in my opinion!!!

Since tis post I have upgraded(?) to a 2005 400i manual shift. The 250 didn't leave the nest however. The wife took it over and I have added the fender flares and gun racks to it for her comfort. She also isn't a speed demon, just like boarderguy's wife and really likes the lighter steering and the narrower machine (if my 400 makes it, the 250 does it too). So far she has gone where I have, when I have. She likes trail riding, and has not used the winch anywhere I haven't. And on the overnighters, she doesn't carry extra fuel like I have to with the 400. I have determined that the 250 is good enough to get the job done and the 400 is just bigger, not better.

I just recently bought the AC 2006 250 2x4. I love everything about
the bike ITSELF. The only challenges I have had thus far is
not being able to find any accessories for it. The AC catalog totally
excludes (for the most part) this ATV. When I called and asked
various dealers they just tell me that is what the 250 is and its
not full size. Also not too many 3rd party on-line dealers for this
make and model. I will say I have found things for the older 250 models
and for the other full size AC ATV's.

Other than that the speed, the power, the handling is great. I am 350 lbs
and have no problem w/anything. I have a good friend w/Polaris Trail Boss
that cautioned me w/this 2x4 not to ride in the snow. I found otherwise
for a 2x4 (in low gear) it did great. I could manipulate at will and never
loss any control or sliding, stuck or otherwise. It meets my needs w/hunting
but all that said it is really tempting to get a 400 for the 4x4 capability, more
accessory options and bigger handling.

He is talking about the older, 2005 and back 250s. The old machines had full independent suspension and were a full sized utility quad made by AC. Not a the Kymco knock off.
