At 1300 miles, I changed out the front and rear differential fluid in my 500. The front is a pain in the butt, but can be solved by a socket type allen wrench head. Luckily I had one. Here is the question. For anyone who had done this, did you find much metal shavings on the magnet? I had quite a bit on both plugs, far more than I ever had on the engine oil drain plug. I'm wondering if this is common.

My Dealer changed my fluid at 1500 miles. Other than that I can only change the rear oil. Never figured out how do do the front, yet.

p,s Got my valves done RIGHT today. I had adjusted the exhast valves alittle too tight and it was leting the compression out.

you can adjust the valves but you can't change differential fluid? All there is to it is just two plugs. The filler plug is hard to access without a socket type allen wrench, but no problem if you have one. It took me 5 minutes.

Sounds funny huh?

I just need to get one of those tools you are talking about, might make it my self. The L-wrench I have just don't work.

I hear that that front diff is on there VERY tight. Thats another reason.

Its tight alright. One of those things you don't anticipate doing, because you know that when it finally gives, its going to smash your knuckles into the a-arm. I did. That socket thing is a handy thing to have for tight situations. You can by them in a set. It just looks like a socket head only it has the allen head sticking out of it. That was the only way I was getting it off I think. I may need to look into adjusting the valves before long. Were yours off very much? Was it very hard to do?

Not hard to do, just have to do it right.

The hardest part is getting the gas tank BACK ON. The easiest way to do it is take the side pannels off, the seat latch, then the tank. Almost impossible to take the tank off with out undoing the seat latch.

The valves were off a good bit, I could here them tick at idle, But I do a log of High RPM Mudding and I had alot more miles than you did. SO yours should be ok. It never hurts to do it, unless I do it(lol).
