Cats and water

I have an 02500i. It sucks in the water, actually quits running. Seems like when the water gets about seat latch height it quits. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its an ATV not a boat. I get a kick out of guys the get these thing soaked and wonder why they stop running. I work on Nuclear subs with an almost unlimted budget, guess what ? They leak too, then they stop running.

Great Point!
Though you can never expect what will happen when trail riding i would check if the place where the intake pipe meets the airbox and see if it is a tight snug fit and that your screw O-clamps are tight. Then do the same for your connection to your air box 2 carb the carb to engine.

i had trouble with my 500 when i got into water when my exhaust got under water it wanted to die but for some reason i could get it pulled out and there was never any water in the oil for in most cases you kill the motor when the exhaust is underwater it will more then likely suck water into the motor but if you somehow rigged up an extention for the exhaust that came up to about as high as the rack you maybe won't have this problem even though it is possible you could lose a lil power good luck

my 650 runs fine with the exhaust under water i dunno why i always had problems with the 500 suzuki motor not wanting to run when the exhaust is under water but then again i guess a person really shouldn't be in that deep

A buddy of mine on his 03 500 went thru a creek and got stuck when he tried to climb out of the creek. the water was over the back racks when he let off the throttle a little, it died. However after we pulled him out He hit the starter and she fired right up spit water for a few minutes and went back to riding. The book says not past the floor boards on my 650 but they take a bit more! His does great his is tough as nails! SOunds like something is not sealed tight on yours, just hunt and search!?!

I was having a problem with mine in the water when the exhaust pipe went under, I tried everything, and then thought about the fact that I had put a jet kit in and that was about when all this happen. I leaned the jetting out some and I have a submarine again. to much fuel and the back presure fromthe water will make it stall out. Good Luck
