Brakes on Arctic Cats
#11
First reply from the Bear guy summed it up. Need to burnish the brakes. That Highlifter brake kit for Honda's uses willwoods, same stuff AC uses (or at least did use in the past). We put a set on my friends Rubicon, and they weren't much until about a week, and then they were great. The brakes on my 99 Arctic Cat were the best brakes on any quad I've ever owned.

The brakes on my 650 work great,as long as you don't use them.No really the hand grip works great,it will lock up all four wheels, the foot pedal is totally useless though. That is going to change.
At 2500kms I have three out of four sets of pads wore out, severe duty pads have been ordered.

Rear foot brake was never intended to be used for all out stopping power. Origanaly was the park brake, should have been completely removed when park brake was moved to the handle. As for spongy brakes, Outlaw brake mastercylinders (black metal resivoir) had some troubles with bore size and flex in brake lines. Wilwood M/C's ( plastic resivoir) gave very little trouble and used braided lines.

Why Cat stopped using Wilwood brakes on their ATV's is a mystery to me. My 98 500 had excellent brakes and their snowmobiles have used Wilwood for many years and have been know to have the best brakes in the industry. I have not had any problems with the brakes on my 650, they work just fine.
