just bought a 04 leftover AC 400 FIS, I got about 60 miles on it,I babied it pretty good but on the low end when I give it alittle punch it has a small hollow knock for about 2-3 seconds, but when i am running about 25-30 mph it doesnt have it,dealer stated its the clutches working together. it is an auto tranny alittle skeptical

Welcome! It does take the 400 some time to break in the engine. I thought mine was gutless until the 200 mile mark or so. Then it was like a totally different engine. So, I had that knock too, and don't anymore so it is nothing to worry about. Also, the Arctic Cat tranny is a really good one, you won't have any problems with that either. Enjoy your maching and put some pictures up!

once you get 400-500 miles on it you'll be really surprised at the difference, the motor really wakes up.

Great machine, as others said it will wake up some. I haven't heard of many problems with this model, tranny or otherwise.

I gotta say, when we first got our 400's I was under-impressed with the power. But I figured who cares. We're not racing anyway - just "touring".

Well, now that I've got over 1200 miles on mine and my wife has about 900 on hers, what a difference! I can now 'gas on it' in the turns and actually break the rear tires loose. It climbs anything and goes anywhere. I can't believe the difference once you pack on a few miles.

I'm totally impressed. No problems other than stuff I've caused myself.

hey i got one of those 400 cat atvs if it is a hollow knock it is just the clutch but keep a eye on it, if it is knockin when you start it and it is idling or when under load especially when the motor is hot it is piston slap most likely on the intake side (my 4wheeler went at 200miles new piston, cylinder, cam and head) the second time around 800 miles (piston, cam, head) it still knocks and cat told me nothing i am a cat mechanic and i have rebuilt around 20 of these they say nothing wrong with them i really babied this machine too untill now
