Default snow plows

What's the best plow for the cat650? From what I've read already, the 60" moose tapered plow would be good for my 300 yard long driveway. Keep in mind that most is not paved, so not sure if that's a factor. Obviously, cat has their own plow, but I'm not sure about the plastic blade...and I believe it is more expensive than the best moose deal I've found.

For tires, sounds like gators or 589's are what everyone recommends?

I've been thinking about a plow lately as the white stuff is on it way. I've got a long gravel driveway as well. I am going to go with the tapered blade as well & we will see how it goes.

I was in talking to the dealer a few weeks ago, who happens to be an AC / Polaris / Kawasaki dealer & they were talking up the Glacier plows from Polaris. He couldn't commit to a date that they would have the mounting brackets available for the different manufacturers.

He says they sell far more AC plows for the AC's because "it's the easiest". They also get the moose plows in, but don't stock them like the do for AC & Polaris.

Has anyone put a Glacier plow an an AC?

I've used both steel and plastic blades. The plastic is superior for snow. Wet snow slides right off of it. It packs in on the steel blade. Look at it this way. Arctic Cat is made in Minnesota. They know a few things about plowing snow up there. There's no strength issue with the Cat blade. Now for rocks or dirt pushing, I'd go with steel, but not for snow.

I have a glacier plow system with a 60in blade on my 04 sportsman 600 and it works great. Easy on, easy off. Polaris also introduced a new wear bar that is suppose to be better for gravel and grass. I would get it for my gravel driveway but don't think it would work well for the asphalt driveways I plow for money.

I say go for the plastic blade, snow does fly off it with ease. My dad has been using the Cat blade since 2000 with no problems at all, he too has a gravel driveway. He has even pushed dirt with it. Hooks up easy too, so that isn't a problem. Otherwise, just be sure you hook it up to your winch, it makes plowing so easy. Oh, whatever brand you get make sure it is the 60" blade!!!!! Good luck and congratulations on the new machine!

Oh, tire wise I myself am going to be looking at the Gators in 26", maybe 27".

I have a Kimpex Sno BLOWER witha 13 hp Honda motor. Its really the way to go. Yep, more expensive, but alot more efficient. Much less hassle when the deep stuff hits.

Snow blower would be great, but at 2-3000, I could have someone come do it for me for 5-6 years. I suppose if I had a parking lot or knew for sure I'd live in this frozen tundra forever, perhaps, but I just can't justify it at this point.

you would have more success with chains than you would on gators or the 589's. if it were just snow, the tires would be alright, but as soon as it gets slipery, chains work alot better

Hey I'm in the market for a plow and was pondering the quote that you said in making sure it's a 60" wide plow, why is that? does the 50" not grab enough snow for a good push? I will be using the plow for commerial use and need to clear off sidewalks. do you know how wide a path a 60" will clear when at full tilt? I am using a 500AC with a winch
Thanks for your help.

That's right, I too do some commercial plowing and the 60" gives you way more coverage. With smaller ATV's it could be too heavy but the Arctic Cats work great with them. Don't worry about the 60" plow on a sidewalk, tilt the sucker and it will be fine, I am not sure what it can clear at full tilt, but I will find out next time I use it. Also remember that when you clear a sidewalk you want to plow more then the width of the cement too, so the 60" helps with that too.
