Well.. I know a lot about some stuff, and not much about the rest- but I thought all the fanfair and hoopla about the H1 was that it was AC's first in house attempt....

It's assembled and tested by AC.

I guess this falls into the "not much about the rest" category...

It's assembled and tested by AC.
does that mean the engineering and production of the parts is by someone else?

I thought I read somewhere, that the engineeering was a/c. But I bet there were suzuki engineers giving input. The way that a/c, suzi and kawi all share resources its not clear cut who does what.
Not much is 100% American made anymore, even harleys have jap carbs and electrics.

Yes it was AC engineers, they also hired a german consulting firm for some help. The same one polaris got help from on the 700. I'm sure they had a design review with suzuki, how much feedback they gave them though who knows. As for the individual parts, no ac's not making them, they scourced them to foundries and machineshops that make that kind of stuff for the industry.

The reason I am asking is that all the reviews and a lot of members on here say that the Suzuki single is the smoothest engine on the market, so since I was considering a AC for the ground clearance I wanted to know if that same smoothness can be expected from the AC?

bottom line suzuki makes in my book one of the most bomb proof motors on the market i have been running arctic cat for years with the suzuki motors in it both in the snowmobile and the atv's and it is a smooth motor but the v-twin of the kawi is very very smooth and arctic got the same guys to help them on the 650 h1 as polaris did on their 700? oh god help us

I wouldn't worry about it too much, AC has done the most testing of any ATV manufacturer prior to its' release. Could be why they're taking so long to put them out. They "cold Spin" the motor, and test 50+ different parameters, then "Hot" test it to get power specs and tuning. I think it's going to be worth the wait. If there is a problem with all the testing, I figure they should have it ironed out before release.
