no just swap out the old one and put in the new one but with 27 inch vampires may i suggest a black primary spring pink secondary spring and remove a shim with your new belt trust me you will keep burning belts with oversized tires till you do and just make sure when you install the belt you can look at it and the writing is so you can read it and not upside down and it is kind of a pain in the butt to actually take the belt off but you will get it

There can be minor variations in new belts of even the same manufacturer. Chances are that it could be ok without changing the shims. But again there might be enough difference from the old belt that shim changes are needed. I would suggest that after installing the new belt you check the belt deflection per the std. instructions. Adjust the shims accordingly if needed. If I were doing mine, I would try to set the new belt up on the tight side because it is likely to loosten up a bit as it wears in. Then recheck it again for belt deflection at about 100 miles or so. Every comment I have seen so far on belt deflection adjustment suggests to run the belt on the tight side of the spec so that it squeels just a bit if you let it idle very long. That seems to give the best performance and belt life. It's really not that difficult to reshim if you have a bit of mechanical ability with the instructions in front of you and have the shims available. Good luck!

Who sells the black and pink springs and what do they do? I noticed when I go through extremly thick mud, if I have to put it in reverse the belt cherps. What do you think I need to do to solve that issue. Thanks for any help. Also is there a book or something that gives really clear instructions to change belts and springs?

m74me - your right on the money!
meathead - How many miles on your bike?

There's a small chance you won't need to re-shim, but very unlikely. For belt deflection measurement, removal and adjustment. See the following link from Nyroc's website.

This is not rocket science but a good set of instructions will help. Although it's time consuming if you need to remove and adjust.

Try and set the tension between 23 and 24mm, 22mm is to tight, belt chearps when you're in gear and idling, and 25mm and up it's to loose. Order yourself various shims before hand cause dealers usually don't carry these in stock.

I ordered my springs from EPI directly from the internet. Check them out at

Something else you might like to know. The Dayco 2017 belt isn't what it's cracked up to be. Lately, everybody has been switching to the Brute Force belt. It has the same part # as the factory Arctic Cat belt, but if you put the two side by side, you'll see the BF belt has a cross section that looks like it has more strands inthe belt. So far the reports have been very promising using the BF belt. Oh, one more good thing about it, I hear it's cheaper too.

The Nyroc website is still online, I was just on it. Maybe something to do with your web browser?

Try it again at "http://atv.dnsalias.com/"

There's also the Kisssofdeath's ATV's website at "http://kod.gotdns.com/index.cgi?album=P650_Mods&view=Belt_Adjustment_Pic tures". Not as good, but should still help.

You can also try the 2005 or 2004 service manual, if you don't have one, you can purchase online for cheap in CND$ at "http://www.brownsleisureworld.com/Manuals/ATV/"

Good Luck!
