Can any of you guys tell me, if I drilled the holes in my muffler and welded it back together would it be to loud to trail ride legally? Also, is it just as good as buying an aftermarket pipe, or would an aftermarket pipe be better?

 

I'm not sure here, why you'd want to drill holes in a perfectly good muffler. And weld it back? Any more noise than it makes already is bad for our 'reputations'. Non-ATV'ers already do not like us and adding more noise just fuels the fire.

So yeah, in my opinion, drilling out your muffler would make it too loud for trail riding.

 

I did the mufler mod, no it wasn't to much louder. I removed the end cap, pulled the core out and cut off the last baffle, shortened the muffler almost 3 inches and put the exit out the back. I needed to rejet but never did with it. Now my black majic pipe makes me sound like a harley on low end and a pulling lawn mower tractor on topend, it's freaking loud. Quiet core coming soon.

 

In both Oregon and Washington there is a 90 db limit on noise from a quad or motorcycle when offroad. If the cop didn't get any last night, you could be in real trouble as the tickets are well over a hundred bucks and if you are way over the 90 db it can be as high as $1000.

 

Here in MN I think the decibal limit is 96 or 98. Either way I know I am way under it right now, my wheeler is very quiet. My dirt bike has a FMF Q silencer on it which is the legal limit in all states and it is way louder. Just lookin for performance upgrades and saw the muffler mod on Nyroc's site. I also just purchased the radiator hose from NAPA for my air box, but didn't put it in yet.
