any way to pep up my 300?

hey everyone, just joined, great site. i have a pair of 300 4x4 s and i am very happy with them. i make my living as a mechanic on equipment and am dyin to pep up my bike. my wifes is fine but i wondered if there are some mods for the carb, or a replacement. i have had experience with these cv carbs on several harleys i had and i am not a fan of them, for throttle response and low end power. also is there any exhaust pipe mods or replacements or engine tricks, i dont want to go so far i kill the reliabilty, we ride them a lot and really enjoy them. i just thought it would be more fun to get more out of my 300 than just goin out and buying a bigger machine. any help would be great. thanks for your time.

well, i have looked high and low, and then low again just to be sure i havent missed anything, and i cant seem to find any aftermarket parts for these bikes. i dont know why, they are some of the most popular ones a c sells. i am lookin to see if maybe stuff for the dvx 400 will work with a little ingenuity. i thought of drilling the jet out myself and lightning the slide and polishing it. as for the exhaust i am lookin at a dvx aftermarket pipe that i can cut the end off and weld on the end of my stock pipe. any one think it will work or am i askin for trouble. thanks.

I have a 1999 300. I put a K&N filter kit and jet kit in it. Then my mechanic put a super trapp pipe on it and jetted it for this pipe. I didn't want a loud pipe, and this one is not to bad depending on how many disks you run in it. He had to make an adapter to bolt the pipe on as no one makes one to bolt up to the 300. The pipe seemed to make a good deal of difference bottom to mid. Hope this helps.

Ok A Dynojet is you best bet along with a K&N air filter;

Other than these two you could go with a pipe like homer says, but it ain't cheap. The are no ignition boxes so this is about it. Soon I will be doing the jet kit and air filter for my '05 400, but with only 400 miles, it is hardly broken in. With the wife now rding the 250 I have been informed that screwing around with it puts my life in danger.

hey, thats what i like to hear. thanks for the replies, i hadnt thought about a supertrapp. i have had experience with them on motorcycles and they are nice since you can tune them. i really apreaceate yalls help. i love to tinker on stuff and i really enjoy the way my 300 rides and holds up. i just cant resist tweakin it as much as i can. i was lookin at the inlet tube that runs under the seat and wondering what i could get away with on it. it seems to restrict the incoming air charge as it gets narrow for the tool pouch indention. thought about cuttin the area out of it and makin a flat piece for the top and resealing it to inlet. i believe it would help with air flow if coupled with a good filter element and the other mods. hmmm, now i just have to talk myself into it. i hope i can be of help to you guys if you ever need any, if you are ever lookin for a place to ride in texas just give me a holler. thanks again.

Johnnycat; If you really want to get crazy you could pull the head, port it and shave it to up the compression so you will need to run premium gas and put a bigger carb on it like off a 400. All of the afore mentioned would rob you of low end torque, but your low range and super low should cover up that. But trail riding would be a bit more difficult. To me though the use of regular gas and and trail riding ability is why I have a ute quad. If I want a lot of go fast Iwill get a Scrambler or Raptor.

hey bear, your right, i actually dont want to scrifice my low end torque. i ride mostly all in the woods, climbing and in mud. i really want to get the low end response to improve on my 300. if i could get just a little better thottle response and more bottom end i would be thrilled. thanks for your help.

Johnycat, Another thing you can do is cut out some of the plastic in the air filter cover and add some sort of filter there. I don't ride in the water so this works for me. I bought an extra cover so incase I have to get into some deeper water all I have to do is change the cover out. I know everyone's terrain is different, but I put a moose lift kit on mine, really helps on rocky trails. By the way I have a AC 650 and my wife has a AC 375 and I will take my 300 in the more dangerous places, it is that much more stable.

Johnycat,I feel the same about CV carbs as you do. I have changed them out for straight Mukunis on several dirt bikes I have had over the years with great success. I was looking for the same thing as you are,better response ect. Im sure it will work on the Cat also, but I havent had the time to spend on it yet. I have had to rejet the Keanes that are on my wifes and mine 2001 300s. I am useing 130 main jets and am running the pilot screw 3.5 turns out. It is a fact that AC changes carb. types alot. My dealer tells me that I will need to go with a 125 main jet when we go to Co. next summer. I also understand that the big bore kit for the older King Quad will work on the AC. But I think the carb swap is a better bet.
