My ac. wont start!!!!!wtf
#1
hi, i have a 01 ac 250 2x4 and i just went outside to start my quad and ride around on the ice near my house and it wont start! i live in mass. and it is only 10 degrees out, but still, i just rode the thing yesterday in almost the same temp and it rode fine. i just went out, turned the key on, and i hit the starter aqnd it just clicked once and thats it. i have an almost new battery so i doubt it is the battery. also, the pull start is about triple as hard to pull over as it ever was. when i pull it it doesnt even seem like it is turning over? i was about to use our bobcat to pull it and pop start it, but does anyone know what this could be from?

That click is the starter relay, and usually it means the battery isnt up to the task. Check the cables on the battery and make sure they are clean and tight. The cold temps, take some of the capacity out of the battery, and it might not be fully charged. Take the battery out and charge it up, and if it does it again, then it needs to be load tested. Any auto parts store, should be able to load test it for free.
Pulling to start it might be kind of hard if the ground is slippery...the rear tires are gonna need to catch traction to bump start.
Can you get it into a heated garage?

yea, it is in a shed right now but i can put it in the garage, just move the old shelby and mame some room. lol. should i put the battery on a charger for a little while and then try or should i use a multimeter and test it? if i do, what do i put it on for a setting? thanks for the help

i just tested it and it read a 12.57, which i believe is normal. any other ideas? is it possible for the starter to just freeze up because i doubt it. ive heard of ppl riding in temps well under zero. any other ideas?

Check the kill switch, make sure the battery has water in it, and check the battery connections paying special attention to the ground.

the kill switch is working because that was the first thing i thought of. the quad will click once when i try to start it with the switch on "run". when i put the switch on "off" it doesnt do anything. also, when i push the button and it clicks once, the neutral light will dim a little bit, like it does when it runs right. the battery is up to the line with acid, so it isnt dead.

I had a similar problem some time back ,The problem ended up being a loose connection at the starter .
If you have plenty of power at the battery and you no for sure that that's not the problem ,check if your getting the full battery power at the starter if so then check the solenoid wire at the starter ,if that's good it might be the solenoid on the starter ,you can give it some light taps with a small hammer as your trying to start it, that some times will free up a sticking solenoid temporarily .
GOOD LUCK !

Did you try to jump start it off a car battery or a charger? I would try that first and if it starts up, then its just a dead battery. That would be the easiest way to eleviate that from the equation. If that doesn't do the trick, you will know its something else.
