Default Need some help!!!

Hi there-

OK I haven't ridden in months and months, shameful I know, but pregnancies don't allow you to ride!! Anyway went and got a new battery today and the guy at the Arctic cat shop said if it doesn't turn right over, drain the carburetor of the old gas (which is VERY old) and it should turn. Well I loosened up the rubber on the front part and back and they said it should turn. Well I didn't get it to turn. I don't have a manual so is there any other ideas or if any of you have a manual could email a picture to know I am in the right area!!! Pretty sure I am. I also need to know where to drain the gas out of the tank. Thank you in advance for your help, oh it's a 2001 375 2x4 manual.

Marla

You first need to find out if the motor will turn over using the recoil starter. Just pull it slowly. If it doesn't you need to pull the spark plug and try again. Oh yeah was the gas valve left on?

Sorry to hear about your problems Marla!!!! I am pretty sure it is just really old gas, it gets hot in Las Vegas!!! Maybe poor a little gas down the cylinder before you reinstall the spark plug, might help to get it going again. Best way to drain the tank might be to just turn it on its side and let it run out the top! Anyway, good luck!!!

Bear, yes the gas valve was left on. Hopefully I have a friend who will come over tomorrow and help me. It's not like I am riding this weekend, but it would be nice to get it going!! I will check the plug though and I really should do an oil change. You know the weather here beats these things up especially the rubber parts. I keep it under cover and I notice the rubber around my choke lever is broken. No big deal I suppose. Can't put rubber in an oven and expect it to hold up!!!

Is there any gas in the tank. The fuel can leak out down thru the carb and engine and completely drain the tank. I also left the valve on once and made a major altitude change from sea level to 5000+ feet with it on the trailer. The cylinder was full of fuel and hydraulice locked the engine up. Pulled the plug and cranked the starter and blew fuel everywhere. A major mess, but after the plug went back in it started and ran. There is a drain screw on the right side of the carb at the bottom of the bowl. All you have to do is loosen it and the carb will drain.

Bear-
OK I think I found the screw on the bottem of the carburetor, but it is screwed on so tight, any suggestions on how to get it unstuck? I have tried with a screwdriver, and I of course can't find the right socket to fit it, is it metric? HELP!!!

Of course it's metric, it's on a carburator made in Japan. If you have some Apex screwdriver bits, use 1/4 socket and appropiate size apex screwdriver bit with a 1/4" drive ratchet ( then again if you have a 1/4" drive socket set you will probably find a socket that will fit). You should drain your carb each spring and every fall so the screw doesn't become stuck and it gets any water or crap out of your carb. Was there fuel still in the tank? To drain it just pop the fuel line off the carb and drain it into a container. Use fresh gas to eliminate that as a problem.

well you could pull start it beings it is a manual put it in second or third and hold it up then when they get to about 7 mph let it down and it should pop it off but bab gas will make it difficult to start or like i just had trouble on my snowmobile the gas dropped down and it can be a problem priming it back up which is where poor a squirt of pure gasoline down the cylinder and put the spart plug back on and it will fire and run for usually long enough to draw the gas up to the carb and i have found out that if you don't plan on driving something for a while go out and from every 3 weeks to a month depending on the machine start it up and let it run for about 15 to 20 minutes
