well, its the tennisball size metal thing connected to the cylinder by a rubber tude. if your on the left side of the bike, its to the right of the cylinder. as far as jets go u'll have to open up the carb.

you need to know some general terms with carbs, and basic knolege around tools. just take your time, and remeber how everything came off the bike, label somethings if you have too. im not sure how hard it is on the 400, but on the raptor, i had to take the front grill/plastics/ and gas tank off. You need to know what the Mainjet is, Needle and Clip and Piolit Jet.

Get a service amnual first before you even concider touching. And then read that manual until you under stand what you are doing. But first a question, do you have any idea if there is a need for a jet change (other than someone think's it would make it faster) or what to look for to determine if it needs one?

You either need to learn about carburation and how to tell if an engine is rich or lean or take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

I think what would work best, is if you get someone who can be there and talk you thru it. Theres alot of little things, and if you arent quite sure how they go, it can cause alot of grief. Any of your riding buddies good at this kind of stuff? If you belong to a club, you could ask around for some help?
For now, if it works....dont fix it.
