Pretty much. If you don't fix the problem, it will continue to get worse and pretty soon the hot fuel won't work anymore either. Besides like I said the premium gas will make your engine run hotter and thats not good with a air and oil cooled engine without a fan on the cooler.

Plug should be .024 to .028 so its set at the narrowest acceptable. What plug is it? The dealers sometimes sll what they have, not what you need.

Smart move as they will sell you the wrong plug if they don't have the right one. Compession is good. Check both float and pilot screw. The pilot screw will only take a few seconds to check and yes 2 3/4 turns out from lightly seated..

Bear has covered pretty much everything, While you have carb apart check needle and jet tube for wear (will cause idle problems). Also I would check valve clearances even though compression is good, intake valve in particular. 250 is a good reliable machine, when you find your problem everything will be good.

What is a "float wrench"? Never heard of one. If the float is not right you just bend the float arm with a pair of needle nose pliers.

well, i just rode the quad down the road and it did ok. up hill it did ok and then down the hill down the road it went fine. i guesss ill just clean the carb and maybe thatll do it. also, it was like 45 degrees out, so maybe being cold it was just not going good. my neibor said just to get some dry gas and maybe there is some condensation in the gas tank. im not sure about the wrench, my dad said that there was a wrench thing that would go onto the float and u use it to set the hieght and it had notches in it that you would use to see what it was at. i wasnt sure about the name though.
