there's a pink carb vent hose on the left side that runs up by the air intake and back down.

FYI -

I don't know if Minnesota is leading and Wisconsin will follow or if its the other way around, but currently there is legislation headed to the governer here that may already be law in Wisconsin or could be on its way. At any rate - Its pretty clear someone is not happy with snorkeled quads.

This is verbage of the legislation here.

45.6 (1) $100 for the first offense;
45.7 (2) $500 for the second offense; and
45.8 (3) $1,000 for third and subsequent offenses.
......
45.15 (e) An off-road vehicle or all-terrain vehicle that is
45.16 equipped with a snorkel device and receives a civil citation
45.17 under this section is subject to twice the penalty amounts in
45.18 paragraphs (b) and (c

Why would they care about a non-noise producing snorkle air inlet? I can see the noise problem with exhaust mods and after market exhaust items, but what the hell is the purpose of limiting snorkles? In some applications they improve the water resistance of the intake system, hell even military Humvees have them.

Bear

My guess is that they see snorkels as a device that allows the ATV to be used in the wetlands and waterways where they are not allowed to be operated. Riding through rivers, streams, lakes, swamps etc. carrys the fines noted in that same post. Even private property with a wetland description is prohibited to be ridden in with the exception of "all due care to avoid if possible and not create a negative impact"
Becuase of the devistation done in the last couple of years - they are REALLY getting serious as those fines and "snorkle penalty" represent.
Although there has been some improvement - last year we didnt have the "all due care to avoid if possible and not create a negative impact" clause for privately owned property.

It was demonstrated to me when I was asked to give an example of the need for a snorkle while operating within the confines of allowed use. Maybe someone else can - I could not.

Interesting - They added this to the ATV regulations in a last minute amendment:
You can be now tagged just for having a snorkel on public water even if no damage is done.
53.5 (7) on unfrozen public water, if the vehicle is equipped
53.6 with a snorkel device that has a raised air intake six inches or
53.7 more above the vehicle manufacturer's original air intake.

It won't effect me as I really have no desire to get in deeper water than I can now. But it is just plain wrong. All the government does is have a bunch of crooks (polititians if you prefer) tell us how to live.

Another resourceful way to add more of our money to the government’s convoy belt.
