Default 96 300 cat 4x4 vs. 99 400 yamaha 4x4

I have a 1999 400 kodiak 4x4 with aftermarket pipe rear wheel spacers and some 26in vampire asx on it. I have a friend with a 1996 artic cat 300 4x4 with edls and 9000 mile on it. We dont know which one of these is a better bike for all around, mud street towing and speed. The problem is that he lives in another state and we cant prove either of our cases , so who in your opinion is the better of the two? could he beat me in any of these things?

tires are alot and the vamps kick butt i would say the yami and i don't think arctic cat made a 300 in 96 the only other factors you gotta look at when you got a good mud machine is weight ground clearance and power anyone wanna go against me? lol someone will probably have a 650 with 28 inch vamps on and woop me

Arctic Cat didn't make a 300 until 1998, and a 99 Kodiak is a little different story than a 2000 model.

Still, I'd prefer to have the 99 Kodiak. Still the 386 cc engine for that year, but it did get a little bump in suspension travel and front discs for 99, and it would be a lot more fun to drive than the 300 AC's that first came out. But then again, those first 300 4x4 AC's had King Quad differentials in them that could be rigged up to to go fully locked with a very minor adustment to the 4x4 selector linkage. If he did that and added decent tires, he would have you in the mud.

going into and through the mudhole the 589's can handle their own pretty good against the vamps seems like it takes less power to turn the 589's with a less aggressive tread pattern but where the vamps really shine just like the mudzilla's is crawling out of the mudhole they just keep digging where the 589's go straight down even though i have taken lesser atv's on with alot better tires and have won due to my great ground clearance and power and i guess you could say i been basically raised in mudholes and swamps so that helps alot to. wouls still say the kodiak would win against the 300

King Quad 300 is basically almost the same as the Arctic Cat. The AC300 would have disc brakes all around and dual a-arm rear end as opposed to the single wishbone on the king quad. AC would have a little better ground clearance. They would have the same engine and transmission though, as well as differential (assuming the AC was modified to lock). The diff-lock will give those the advantage in the mud, and the kodiak should outshine them about everywhere else.
