Default hot or cold?

i was wondering it the 05 arctic cat 400 gets hot since it is only fan cooled? if you are working it hard in the heat do you need to stop and let it cool down.

First I assume (A bad thing) that you are speaking of a ute 400 and not the DVX. The engine is air and oil cooled (the same set up since '03) the thermostat switch in the return oil line turns the fan on when oil temp after the oil cooler reachs a temp of 320 degrees (F) the switch turns the fan on until the oil temp drops below 284 degrees (F) at which time the fan stops running. I have never had to stop for any reason other than lack of rider skill. When being worked hard the fan will cycle on and off as necessary.

Its normal for the fan to cycle on for awhile, but if the overheat light comes on, itd be a good idea to stop the motor and let it cool down.
Some people wire in a fan switch, which, if done right, allows for automatic operation, and when you want the fan on, manual operation.

Agreed about the hot lite. Only time mine has ever come on is after a hot shutdown, the lite and the fan both came when key turned on and the lite went out on start up as soon as the oil started to circulate. I haven't done the bypass switch yet, but see the value of it if the auto fan switch should malfuntion and not turn the fan on.
