I have a AC 2005 4x4 500. new in sept i bought it.

it's finaly warn in good.
I topped it out at only 50 mph......Whats up with that?????

i knew they werent' that fast and have lower end power.....but thought it woulda been as close or faster than my 2002 polaris 400 4x4.(60 mph) i weigh around 300 Lbs.

i'm well under 300 lbs now and thought that might help.

this spring i need to pull my 4' spring tooth to work up ground...thats why i bought it....it better have lots of power like the polaris did.
I sold my polaris cuz i had 4000 miles on it(never changed a belt) and worked great but herd AC has great lower end power so i got one.

any info would be great...thanks

Is it a manual or an Auto? There are plenty of things to do to it to give it more lowend... Here is another Forum It's all AC owners... www.arcticchat.com I belong over there... And have learned so much.... You will like you 500 as time goes on... Mine is an 03- with a bumch of work done to it with only 606 miles on it.. And its a great quad to me.

it will get faster as you put more miles on it. not much faster though. my 05 manual 500 goes about 53 mph. I heard some peoples will to out at 55. Its all geared for lowend power. if you want to go faster than that your going to need to put some exhaust and airbox mods and rejet but I doubt your ever going to see 60mph on it without some wind on your back. its not meant for topend as you know.

if you want low end power why are you worrying about high end power?
anyway my kingquad 300 goes 57ish. pluse the speedos on quad arent that great. so you might be going faster then it says.

Your likely not going 50mph. All of the AC's that I've checked with GPS are doing slightly less. 46-47 ish with 50 on the speedo.

Your going to plow at over 50mph? Thats going to be interesting to watch!

Ok - just joking...
The reason the cats are slower is that they are geared more for low end power and not high end speed.

Have no fear - the ac 500 is a workhorse. I had a 2002 50 auto and pulled a quadivator no problem. In fact, it was nicer to use with the quadivator than my 650. It turned easier. The 650 has more power but the 500 has enough power. The 500 also worked great with a snow plow. Always use low gear. The 500 was no speed demon but definately is a work horse.

thats what i wanted to hear....a work horse!!!

i just got it in sept of 05' and didn't have a chance to work it.
i plowed snow this year but thats not hard....even a 2x4 can do that.

i have another question....
i was just reading the booklet and said if your in 4 wheel drive so all fours are locked in you should only go 10 mph.
correct??

If you use the diff lock you may be speed limited. The diff lock is used to get out of a stuck situation - the quad will steer with great difficulty and you will know it. In regular 4 wheel mode you can go as fast as you want. And, definately, when you are plowing snow or working soil, you should be in 4 wheel mode.
