Default 1" wider??

Hey everyone! I would like to get some different tires for my new H1 () and I was wondering how much wider than stock width I could go on the stock rims without running to trouble? I would like to go a little wider just to protect those fancy schmancy rims it has from rocks and stuff.

You want to keep the total machine width at no wider than 50" if you do much trail riding. Look at some of the places that offer wheel and tire combos. Useally you can go and inch bigger do problem and 2 sometimes.

I went with 10" fronts and 12" rear on my H1. I can still go through all the same places that I did before. The benefits outweigh the cons. Have noticed very little difference in the handling and the ride.

Oh! And by the way Rooch, congrats on your purchase of the H1. I also purchased one recently and so far I am quite impressed. I like both trail riding and playing in the mud. Quad rallies coming up starting next week end and one almost every week end afterwards. These are in Sask., not to far from where I live. Plan on going to as many as I can. May post some pics of some of them, if I can figure out how to do it on the ole comp.

Thanks for the tips, and Nichi, where abouts are those rallies, they sound fun to go to? There isn't much to do around here quad wise, always go to the mountains for real fun.

I notice that you live in the Medicine Hat area Rooch. The quad rallies I speak of are in the east central area of Sask. Small communities like Weekes, Somme, Mistatim, Hudson Bay Etc. I live in The Pas, Mb., which is only 2-21/2 hrs. from these communities. Last year some of these rallies had 250+ riders. Trail is challenging with plenty of mud and water. Distances are around 35-50 miles and maybe even more. Get to meet alot of other people with a similar interest. Everyone helps one another when stuck in the mud. They are a blast. Get info too regarding other up-coming events relating to rallies or bike info. Rallies are held on weekends. Good idea to bring a complete change of clothes and shoes if you decide to give it a try.

question for bear: different topic but similar......purchased new Bear Paws for rear of my cat.2002 375. They are 7/8inch larger in overall diameter than my front tires. Will this cause a problem when I'am in 4 wheel drive? The front tires are 589's ....they are fairly new ,so don't want to give them up................I've heard that too much difference in size can damage the diffs.......thanks

cdnrokon, I would never run tires with 7/8" bigger than the other set. It will stress the drive train and the weakest link will break. If you were mud running it wouldn't be that big a deal, but on trails on dirt it will cause major problems. the only way you can do it is to different gear ratios, like on the older 250s and 300s. With a 4X4 you need to buy tires as a set of 4.
