Default Differential question

I'm a total newbie to ATV's so please excuse my ignorance.

I just picked up a 2003 A/C 250 4x4 & have been reading tons of info about it on this site. One thing I haven't figured out yet is the purpose of the selector arm on the front differential. From what I have read the 2003 differentials can't be modded to a 2x4/4x4 selector, they are 4x4 only.

So what is the selector arm for??

Thanks!!

That was my initial thought but everything I have read says that the 2003 model doesn't have one. I have tried moving it every which way but it will not budge.

There was a kit to make them selectable. You can mod the kit to make them have a locker too.

Was it a factory kit or an aftermarket??

If the latter, do you remember who the manufacturer was??

The selector arm is for 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. The only thing is that 4 wheel drive is in limited slip mode unless you do the modification to lock up the front differencial. If the color of the front differincial is black well your like me and the modification isnt possible without extra cash for parts. But if it is grey/silver you can do the modification the lock up the front differincial. I have the URL if you need it.

the 03s can only go 2/4 wd no locker- you have to have a 01 or older for that. Cat makes a selector kit for the 250s to shift them out of 4x4
