Default Build your own Speedrack mounts

My '04 has the 1.0 version of the Speedrack, formerly MRP. I like it but there are accessories made by other companies that I really like but require the normal bolt on mounting.

Has anyone made their own adapter brackets to attach aftermarket accessories to so they can quickly be put on and taken off via the Speedrack pull pins?

I have been doing some measuring and it shouldn't be a problem other than figuring out how to make the flat pin with the hole in it and welding it to the square tubing. The rest should just be cutting and welding.

I don't think the slightly higher mounting of the accessories would cause much of an upset in center of gravity if mounted to the widest positions possible.

AC makes an accessory mount kit that you can attach other items with. Part number 0436-625. I even used one to mount a soft rack bag. Got a piece of plastic the same size as the inside of the bag and attached the rack mount on the bottom with the bag between the two. Works great.

Thanks Bear

I saw that in the AC accessory catalog but I thought it was just for the cargo box. It does say 05-07 models. Aren't the Speedrack and MRP were the same thing except they made it so you didn't have to remove the outer frame bars to plug in the accessories? So even though it says 05-07, it should still work for the 04 MRP.....right?

I might get one and try it. However, I wonder if it is strong enough for the hang off the back basket rack I want to install , considering the leverage on the mount with the basket loaded. The cargo box and your bag put the weight back down on the rack and mount. What I want to do would put the weight off the back of the rack and may be too much for the mount.

I don't want a couple of elk quarters to end up on the trail if the mount breaks.

I don't know the answers to your last set of questions. I have a 2005 model so I never ran into the issue. My dealer stocks this item so check with yours and if he has it. If so, drag your machine in and see if it fits. I do have a buddy with an '04 but he is gone hunting this week and I will be gone camping/quad riding for 10 days, leaving in 2 days. So I couldn't find out until next month. I would think the weight off the back would be bad, causing very light steering. Have you thought about a trailer? BTW, where do you elk hunt?

Yes I considered the weight hanging off the back. Last year I used a hitch hauler in the receiver to bring out my 200# whitetail. Pretty light steering going up the road to the barn. So I plan on loading the front racks to keep some weight forward. If I have to load the rear lighter or make a second trip to be safe, so be it.

A trailer wouldn't work because of some of the rocks in the trail I have to go over to get to my hunting spot. That's part of the reason I went with AC- gound clearance. My hunting buddies have a Honda, a Polaris, a Yamaha, and an AC. The Honda and Polaris always bottom out on the rocks when loaded. The Grizz does fine, as does the other AC. We hunt in CO west of Montrose on the Plateau.

I will see if my dealer has one in stock so I can check it out.
