Yes check the frame on any 2004 650, however like 90% of those with cracks (only about 5-10% actually had problems) were from the southern states.

I have an '04 v-twin with over 3,000 miles on it. I have replaced one belt, one battery and switched to MudLite tires. I've had no major problems with it.

2004 ac 650vtwin

i've owned an (04) and now have an (05) 650 v2 both of wich have had broken frames on both sides of the air box at the welds, so i guess you can put Maine on the map.
i'd sugest sleeving the frame rail in that area and weld it good.
