Changing the belt on 650 v2
#1
Ok. I have never changed a belt on my 05 650 v2 before. I just bought it used in November. I looked on the service manual and it references a clutch holding tool and a puller. Ok, I know what the clutch puller is, but the holder I am not sure. First of all do I need the holder to change the belt. How is everyone else changing their belts? I contacted alpha sports and asked if they could send me the part numbers of both tools and they just sent me the web site of their tool page, with tons of different tools.??????????????????????
Anyway, does anyone have any experience with changing the belts?

The clutch holder is used to keep the secondary and primary clutches from turning when you are loosening the nut to remove them. It is not absolutely necessary to have but does make it easier to remove the clutches. The primary clutch is the one that is supposed to be removed to get the belt off, if all you are going to do is change the belt. But, if you are going to accurately set belt deflection also, then the secondary has to come off too.
If you decide not to get the clutch holder, a broom handle works very well to hold the primary in place, and a small open-end wrench can be used to hold the secondary (difficult to explain how that works).
It is possible to "walk" the belt off without removing any of the clutches. I know that some guys on this site use that method. I messed around with that a little bit but since I bought the tools I think its easier to just remove the primary to take off the belt.
I haven't changed my belt yet because it is wearing very well, but I have tightened it twice by removing shims from the secondary to keep the it tight (which is why it is wearing well).
Part numbers: spanner wrench (clutch holder) 0444-153, and clutch puller 0444-161.
Sorry for the rambling post, I hope that helps.
