Default '86 bearcat Carburetors

Hello, does anyone know which carburetor is on the '96 bearcat. The operators manual shows a Mikuni BST 31 but all the parts houses show a BST 34-209. Are these the same with the only difference being the primer?? Am trying to buy parts to rebuild to stop a plug fouling problem. Thanks

Thanks Bear. I have read many of your posts and I was hoping that you would respond. Your like the AC guru. I went to Alpha sports and the carb on my bike is the one with the primer, so it was replaced at some point. The 96 bearcat was completly used up and I had the top end rebuilt because I was blowing out black and white smoke. The dealer thought that would take care of both problems. I got it home and it still loaded up, then died and left me stranded. When I got back to it with my truck, gas was pouring out of the airbox so I took it back to the dealer and they replaced a seal, and the needle and seat. In doing some reasearch it looks like they should have also replaced the needle jet tube as it is still loading up and maybe decreased the size of the pilot jet. I use this machine on a fish farm and seldom go more than 10 mph. ( more like 10 fet per minute) Many times I am spraying or using a drag and are moving at basicly an idle in low range. I also use it to pull my harvest nets which at times could be a couple of thousand pounds or more.Because of this I like the manual gearbox and wary of the belt so I keep this machine. I am tempted to start tinkering with rejeting and such but at the same time the diaphram and slide look extremly worn, so maybe just buying a new carb to go with the new top end should be the way to go. Any ideas? I also found a new BST34-209 at a company called Country Cat for $322.96. Have you delt with this company before?? Thank you

I bought new needle jet from Alpha sports, replaced the old one,and the machine is working great. No more fouled plugs and low end and top end power. Why couldn't the dealership, who charged me to " rebuild" the carb find the problem. Once I took it apart it was so obvious that the needle jet was well worn and was the problem. All the dealership wanted to do is change the pug, get it running, charge me bucks, and get it out the door. I found all the info on what was the problem on this site and I thank everyone who took the time to help.

HELP PLEASE!! I have a 97 Bearcat 454 and it runs great until you get to the top end. It continously blows white smoke especially under a load and the top end gets real flat real quick. I can't break 30mph and that's pushing it. Does this sound like a top-end rebuild is needed even though there is great compression? What is top speed for this machine?
