3.25 US quarts or 2900ML, check the oil without screwing in the dipstick.

i have another question too. I went to my arctic cat dealer and he sold me a oil change kit for my year and type of arctic cat and when i changed the oil filter the one that came off is shorted that the one i put back on and on the box it came in it said it would fit a 400 so can some one tell me if i should get a new oil filter or if they just started to make a new one???

I don't know, about the shorter filter, use it and don't put all the oil in, try only 3 quarts and check the level.

I use a Fram filter on my machine but I have used AC filters before.

I think they replaced the shorter oil filter in 05 or 06 with the newer one. The new AC oil filter number for the 400/500 is p/n 0812-034. It is about 1/2 inch longer and has a slightly smaller diameter than the old filter.

I personally like the newer design as it is easier to put on and take off with your hands. No wrench needed if its done right.

Also, in case you did not do it already, I find it easiest to remove the skid plate when changing the oil so I do not get oil all over the skid plate. This way I do not have to remove the little plug to drain the oil from the filter, I just remove the filter and catch the oil than runs oil in an oil pan. Plus, every other oil change you should remove plate your oil plug screws into and clean the oil pump intake screen. Especially after the initial break-in.

Another recommendation, i would switch to a good synthetic oil.
