I use a Fram filter on my machine but I have used AC filters before.

I think they replaced the shorter oil filter in 05 or 06 with the newer one. The new AC oil filter number for the 400/500 is p/n 0812-034. It is about 1/2 inch longer and has a slightly smaller diameter than the old filter.
I personally like the newer design as it is easier to put on and take off with your hands. No wrench needed if its done right.
Also, in case you did not do it already, I find it easiest to remove the skid plate when changing the oil so I do not get oil all over the skid plate. This way I do not have to remove the little plug to drain the oil from the filter, I just remove the filter and catch the oil than runs oil in an oil pan. Plus, every other oil change you should remove plate your oil plug screws into and clean the oil pump intake screen. Especially after the initial break-in.
