2007 AC 400 vs 500 vs 650H1 - diff?

hi guys!
this is exactly the kind of details that a guy needs to decide - especially, if you don't have access to a friend's atv you can <u>REALLY</u> test.
Test driving the AC 400 i certainly felt acceleration immediately, and it kept going faster like an upward curve, gentle at first and then more and more. Whereas the ole 2 stroke (and maybe more comparable to a 650) it was less of a curve up and more an upward diagonal line of acceleration, instant need for speed was met, if one has such a need!
To give you an idea of acceleration, it's part of our fun when we double on the '96 Polaris 400 4x4 2 stroke, that the driver hits the throttle and the passenger has to react fast to stay on - sort of like a Pink Panther Peter Sellers/Kato routine. You gotta be lightning fast and grab the driver's torso or your overboard! We're in our 30s so no accidents. Keeps us young!! LOL! The AC400 by contrast felt like it would be impossible to surprise anyone other than maybe a slow 85plus year old. But it was steady and solid.
air/oil vs liquid...
until several folks come forward and declare issues with air/oil, my preference remains "KISS" and go with air/oil. But Huge thankyou to you all for taking the time to hash this all out!
Wish all you folks were nearer - i could come visit and check out your rigs ))

Power or torque to the wheel is not always measured by the speed. A four cylinder tractor certainly can't out run a v-8 corvettte but it sure can pull a lot of weight.</end quote></div>
Hi Buckaroo50,
This last comment is regarding your analogy of comparing the AC 400 (i.e. 4 cyl tractor) to a 650 H1 (v-8 corvette). All of my previous comments have never been related to speed. Most people relate bigger motors for the need to have more speed/more power. My 650 H1 topped out at less than 53 mph and I couldn't care less. I didn't buy it for speed, rather for it's copious amounts of low end torque.
IMO, a more accurate analogy would be to compare a 4 cylinder tractor (400) to an 8 cylinder diesel tractor. Torque for torque, the 650 H1 just has a whole lot more of it.
Z-alex - I sincerely wish you good luck with your new AC400. Yopu wouldn't be disappointed. It will meet all of your needs. Sincerely GH.

And keep on your toes at the dealer. You never know what you can get.
When I went out to get a new quad in 2002, I had reached pretty much the same conclusion - the 500 was nicer than the 400, but it wasn't $900 nicer.
They had priced me a 400i at $5300 and a 500i at $6200. I'll go for the 400. But I had to have it in dark green - didn't want it so visible for the thieves. Salesman comes back and says all they have in stock is red, it will take two weeks to get it in green.
I'm on the verge of saying - that's okay, I'll wait two weeks - when he pointed at the dark green 500i I was sitting on, and said - or you can have that 500i for $5800.
Okay, it's definitely $500 nicer, so I took the 500i. Been delighted with it. It has been rock solid bulletproof, and crawls anywhere.
Was by the Cat dealer today, and they said they'd knock $1k off of a 2007 650 TRV LE they had sitting on the floor. That's down to $7800. I'm thinking out the door for $8k. Going back next weekend - we'll see. (and if anyone in the KY area is interested in an 02 500i, 1400 miles, farm use only, never been in mud for $2800, drop me a line)
