I have alot of problems with brakes squealing, oil leaking from oil cooler, and shifter popping out of gear. ATV has 400 miles on it and it has been in the shop 5 times is this normal or did i get the bad one out of the bunch( the quad was purchased one year ago today

Sounds to me that you got the bad one. I've had my machine for about 2-3 months now, an 06 400, and I have about 300 miles on mine and have loved every single mile! The machine is just great! One thing that you have to keep in mind when making judgement on the machine is that just because the one you got is bad doesn't mean the whole lot of them is bad. The workers making them makes mistakes too. I just hope your dealer sees this and backs you up on it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Let us know how it gets resolved.

I'll second that, with a bit more time. I bought a 500i back in 2002. It has seen almost 1500 miles of farm use over my hilly, limestone rock strewn farm, hauled heaven knows how many tons of firewood, stretched a lot of fences, and gotten me over the Hatfield McCoy trails as well.

In all that time, I've had two problems: The gear indicator lights went out after a year, and a spark plug fouled. Never bothered to fix the gear lights, and the plug just needed a change. Otherwise, it has been gas and go, with an oil change every spring. A bulletproof machine. Oh, and the float came off of the gas tank gauge, but it never was that accurate, anyway.

The only reason I'm thinking about replacing it is that I want a TRV. But the idea of replacing the 500i with anything other than another Cat just never entered my mind. No reason to.

I am writing back to in regards to the 06 400 with all the problems. I read what u wrote and u r correct mistakes r always made and i am very understanding of that. the dealer i bought the atv from no longer sells arctic cat and will not service it either. they r well aware of the issues i have and they will not do anything about it nor will arctic cat who i have called for 2 weeks without any luck. they just keep telling to take it to the dealer. don't get me wrong when it is running good it is great it is comfortableand fun to ride but i don't think i am being treated fairly with how the machine is. thanks for your time and good luck with yours cause i know i will need it with mine.

Sounds like a bummer, however don't give up the ship yet. If you want you can handle most of the situations yourself.... There are people here that are willing to help you and if need be step you through everything...

Here is a link for the shop manual - it is a start
