Default 650 v twin owners..help

My buddy has an 05 that he bought with only 5 hours on it but it has this harness that connects to a small plastic sensor that when it gets submerged,it shorts out and he cant go more than 5-10 miles an hour until he resets the computer or something. We replaced the crcked one that wwas there(you could tell the previous owner had the same prob)but it doesnt make a good water proof seal.
I was wondering if anybody knows what the heck im talking about.I figured it is a regular problem for this model and somebody has a quick fix for it by now (ie. silicone it shut, etc.)
any help is appreciated...Cliff

I believe the machine is going into limp mode, which prevents belt failure and allows the owner to get the ATV to a certain distance without breaking down. Very annoying actually. If he resets it, buys a dynatek CDI box im betting it never happens again.

Besides that, with a Dynatek he will have an enormous power increase that he will love.
