Sometimes a grinding noise that sounds like a steel ball rolling around in a metal circular pan? It is like a whoosing grinding wirring noise. You normally hear this if its a bearing or such. If your ATV is still under warranty I would take it back in and have the dealer look at it. Can you put the wheeler on blocks all the way around and hear it as well?
I am pretty sure your 650 is an auto and the auto tranny sometimes makes a whinning/humming noise that surges as the tires get and loose traction and does not do this when traveling down a trail unless you are spinning the tires. This is what my 500 TRV does. AS far as I know it is normal.
I am not 100% sure but I know there was a recall or an issue with a thrust bearing (or something like that) on the AC 500. It would be worth a call to the dealer to check it out anyway.
Hope this helps.
