Default New '08 TRV Engine/Tranny Rattle

Hey all!

Just a quick question/observation. Bought a new '08 TRV 650H1 and have about 300miles on it and due for her "after break-in" service check/oil change. I've noticed an increasing engine rattle at low rpm on throttle-up/starting to move. Sounds like an octane knock you'd find in a vehicle.

Have noticed a slight decrease in power, but that's about it. Been running 87Octane Reg Gas w/o any ethanol(crap).

Running a stock setup. No Mods.

I've also noticed an increase in engine/throttle/clutch "slack" . Lots of minor "clunking" in the intermediate stages between acceleration/deceleration and alot depends on the terrain.

Is this just -
1. poor gas?
2. belt/clutch adjustment?
3. holy crap she's a gonner?
4. Relax ?

I've done a complete chassis inspection/fluid level check/tire pressure/brakes....etc....etc.....but this "rattle" is anoying me. I'm a NEWBIE to ATV'n.... but not to other off-road toys.

I guess I'm asking if this is "NORMAL". Or should I talk to my dealer. I've posted on a few other forums as well.

Suggestions?

Have a new 07 650 trv with 150 miles has same noises.Dealer says that the singals are normally noisier than the twins, nothing to worry about.Haven't noticed any loss in performance, runs great.Just ride it and have fun.

Ended up taking it to the dealer and theyfound nothing wrong, and pretty much gave me the "shut-up-and-driveit" pat on the head.

Oh well, I've got close to 400 miles on it now, and just gave it it's after-break-in oil change/filter - air filter wash - diff check etc. and everything checked out fine.

Did discover to my somewhat disapointment that the 650H1 DOESN'T monitor oil pressure like I thought it did. - dough!

AH well, got a full day of riding planned for tomorrow with friends, so I'm gearing up for that.

Bottom line - I luv it, and am already planning on ANOTHER one (single for me) so the wifey and I BOTH have our own to ride next spring.........

You also said it seemed to have clutch slack, did they check the belt and belt deflection?I understand that the clutch is adjustable with shims and this could also decrease performance
Manual recommends checking at 500mi intervals.
Anyway have a great ride.
