Successsfully completed start in gear for my AC 300 1999 model year. The color coding was the same as another 500 machine, so they might?? be the same for all. It took a total of 20 minutes, which included drilling the hole for the switch and mounting thereof.

1. Locate the nuetral relay switch. It is located near the positive battery terminal. Small black box with 5 wires going into it.

2. Unwind enough of the black tape to expose the blue wire with white stripe and strip away a small portion.

3. Splice another wire into this wire, connect it to one side of a switch. Connect the other side of the switch to a ground.

4. Tape up everything neatly.

YOU'RE DONE!! When you flip the switch with your machine in gear, the nuetral light AND the gear indicator light will both light up, enabling you to start in gear.

Obviously, this isn't a step by step, you'll still have to decide where/how to mount the switch, etc...but it will hopefuilly point you in the right direction.

Just thought I'd let ya'll know,
Mike

I guess I gave you an extra step that you didn't need huh?? Cause I think I remeber something about a second wire going from the starter relay to the neutral relay.

I don't see any mention of applying the brake to be able to start the bike when it is in gear. I thought take was a great safety feature.

Well if you wanted to incoperate this you would have to buy a brake pressure switch from a model with start in gear. Fliping a switch will do the same thing except without the brakes. But since you have to flip this switch you are aware that you are in gear.

I would recomend a momentary switch instead of a switch that will stay on cause with this kinda switch it will stay on if you forget it. And could cause you to forget about it.

Or wire it into the brake light circuit so it supplies power to the start switch.
