i got a 2001 ac 300 4x4 i want to snorkel. i realize it may need to be re- jetted also.
my questions are - what size pipe should i use - 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 ?
if anyone here has done this on this bike how is your jetting set ?
if i get an idea of the basic jetting i can work off that. not gonna install aftermarket exhaust.after market mufflers are to loud for my liking.

from the research i have done,i think this is the same engine that was used in the 300 kingquad. this one has a keihin carb.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

welcome to the forum swamp rat!! well, to be honest im not sure of the size for a snorkel, and dont know about the jetting. I dont know anyone thats done this so im full of useless information. I guess i could have said this the first time i looked at your post, but i didnt know the answers or have any suggetions. Im sure thats the reason that 21 people looked at your post and didnt reply. lol. Oh, maybe try arcticchat.com. Its all about cats and cat fanatics. maybe someone will know there.

I have seen another AC 300 with dual snorkels that come up through the plastic right in front of the steering column. I believe it was made out of either 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch PVC. I am not sure how it was routed exactly, but I remember a pipe running down the right hand side towards the front. It came out of the side of the air box.

I would think that you would need a new lid for the air box, then using the tubing rout it down the side of the engine (opposite the exhaust) to the front of the machine. The pipes extended up to just past the handle bars and then turned. His machine was an automatic so I think the second tube was for the belt housing vent. I am not sure what he did to seal the rear vent though.

QUAD Magazine featured an entire article last year on settin up your own Snorkels.

I have that article somewhere and I will try to locate it if I can. I will let you know one way or the other. Not being interested in the Snorkeling myself, I didn't really read it thru. It was a very thorough article. Complete with photos an all.

Something else I wanted to mention to you.

Back in 1968, my wife and three little boys made a trip from NW Ohio to Southern California in our new Chevy Surburban CarryAll. While out there, we started seeing Dune Buggies all over the streets. I fell in love and just had to build my own. We scraped all our travelers checks together and bought a MetalFlake body kit, rented a trailer and towed it all the way back to Ohio. Was driving it in 2 months and still have it today. Been driving it for over 40 years now.

Here's the ironic part, being a sign painter and artist too, I lettered my garage (service) door to read Home of the Swamp Rat That lettering was still on that windown until about 2 years ago in East Toledo.

I forgot to add that if it was me I would use the black PVC pipe. It would blend in better with the black frame of the machine. I know they sell snorkel kits too. Just be careful of the ones using a soft flexible tube. I know someone who installled one and then when he really got on the gas it would collapse! Engine can't run at all then. So imagine trying to get through a really deep muddy hole and not being able to hit the gas hard!

I personally draw the line when the water hits the bottom of the seat. Unless I have an accident I will not go deeper.
