Just wanted to know if anybody had 27" blackwaters on a 400 4x4 artic cat.Do you need a lift kit or spacers?Want to run 27" 9"x12" on front and rear. Are these to small to run on the back?I dont haul heavy loads.Do mostly trail riding, hills, creeks, some rocks and mud.thanks.this is a great site.

My dad wants to get new tires for his 400 also. He has the ITP Chrome Rims, and he wants to run 27's I think. Will he be able to put 27x12x12's all around with out the need of spacers. I know that they will clear without spacers on the back or a lift kit. (Ive seen 28inch outlaws on one with out a lift) THanks for the help.

You can safely run any 27" tire you want on the AC with no lift, and yes they will fit on stock rims. Even the 12" rear tires will fit. I had 27" tri-claws on my stock 6.5" rims with no problems. No need for spacers unless you want 12" tires up front.

The 9" blackwaters will work on the rear just fine. They won't give you the traction that the wider rears will have, but they will still do better than stock.

With 12" wide fronts they will rib ALITTLE on the shocks with no other mods, but this is nothing to worrie about. If you get a lift kit, depending on how you mount it, you will have more/less clearance between the shocks. The way I mounted my lift kit, I have gained about 2.5" of ground clearance over stock and have more room between the shocks and tires. The problem was that I had to compress the shocks alittle the way I mounted it, thats why I have more lift than normal.

I was looking at some pics of a lift kit mounted on an AC500A at Lords's MotorSports ATV's and I noticed that he had less clearance between the shocks and tires cause he mounted his alittle differently than me, he didn't compress the shocks.

I just have to question the Blackwaters. IF you are going in any mud at all, why these tires?? I find that 589s are MUCH Much better. They ride MAYBE slight tiny bit roughter, but perform way better. I was talking to someone that said he could not wait untill his XT's wore out so he could get some 589s. He just hates these tires, but atleast they gained him ground clearance for his Rubicon.

Boner is right, I just put the 589's on my 400 and these things are awesome. I can run in the mud and put such a load on the engine it still amazes me. They will drag the underside of the over damm near anything. The old tires did not have enough bite to even load the engine before breaking traction. I have yet to use my winch since I bought the tires. I know I will use it sooner or later but with the old rubber I never once rode without winching the bike. I don't think I would go to the 27 inch though I would use the 26". I put on 25" which are slightly smaller than the stock rubber. I think you will be unhappy with 5th gear and the taller tire.

Cheers Jim

Are you thinking of getting rid of your Tri-Claws for 589s?

No, I would like to trade my ITP steels for stock or Aluminum wheels tho. I HAD someone that wanted to trade, but he claims to be moveing so he can't do the deal. I think he just changed his mind, cause what does moving have to do with swaping wheels???
