2004 AC 500 4x4 is overheating. I was told to check the fuse. Stupid question... Where is the fuse? I don't have a service manual and saw no sign of a fuse box/harness under the seat. I want to go riding tonight but won't be able to if I don't fix this pronto.

Also, what type of fuse are we talking about? Is it a standard Blade type ATO fuse or is it proprietary? If I can pick one up on the way home.

Ok found the fuse near the right rear wheel. Fan fuse is NOT Blown. What's the next check, sensor or fan?

 

That happened to my 650 and it was the sensor. Try wiring your fan direct to see if the fan is ok.

 

I direct wired to the battery and the fan kicked right on. Is is safe to assume it is the temperature sender?

 

If my memory is correct the temp send unit is pretty spendy and there is a test procedure to see if it is not working properly OR if there is a short in the wiring.

I have a friend who just hard wired the fan to a switch and spent $3 on a switch and turn it on when he thinks its hot and turns it off when he goes in deep water to protect the fan. I think the temp sending switch was like $40 or something.

It was $25.00. I bought one and hopefully it will solve the problem. All the wiring is intact. I'll update after I install in about a week.

 

Problem solved. Fan is now functioning with new temp sender.

My only complaint is why do they have to make it difficult to access everything. You need to remove almost everything to work efficiently. With my ham hands, its not easy to work in there. Anyway, I squeezed my sausage fingers in there without dismantling the machine and got it done.

 

Probably had to remove the front fender plastics to get good access to the sensor?

Good to hear it is up an running. Also nice to know prices on some parts have dropped a bit.
