Default 2003 AC 500 Lost all power

Was out riding with the family last night and the AC just died on the trail. No lights, power to the fuse box, completely dead. Checked all the obvious stuff, battery, fuses, looked for broken or melted wires. Any suggestions.

Cool

Three things come to mind:

1. Did you do a voltage test on the battery? No pwr to the fuse panel tells me it's fried/dead or your stator isn't charging it. It should sit at 12-13volts w/o the quad running.....and 14-15volts running - charging.
2. your starter seleniod block feeds pwr to the fuse block & the starter. It could be fried.
3. bad coil. - would explain the sudden "dying", but not the overall pwr loss to EVERYTHING.

If you can - BOOST the machine - but leave the "boosting" vehicle OFF. Connect your cables and see if it turns over & you've got pwr. If it does....I'd look at what I said in #1.

good luck

Just had a similar problem with my 02 500. Shut it down in my woods, went to restart, and no power anywhere. Found that the cable going from the battery to the solenoid was cooked where it attached to the solenoid. Some melted plastic around that connection, so apparently it's been heating up for a while. Darn bolt is corroded sold, so far I haven't been able to get it loose, may have to just replace solenoid and battery strap.

Default Thanks for the input

I will try boosting it when I get home. The battery voltage was at a little over thirteen when we got it home last night. I checked the battery with a submersible 12 volt fishing light to see if I actually had current flow and I did. I will take a closer look at the solenoid tonight when I get home from work. Thanks again for your help, experience is often the best teacher and I have very little of it.

Default Still don't know

I tried jumping it and that did nothing. Upon further examination of the wiring I was not able to find anything that looked out of the ordinary, no damaged wires, cleaned up the battery connections and pulled the starter solenoid off. I will call our local dealer today and see what he has to say.

Sometimes there is a plug on the ignition wiring located along the steering column that unplugs if you turn sharp. This shuts off the machine and it will not even pull start.

It is hard to get at but if you look down the steering column from the top you should be able to see it. It is the wires that connect to the ignition key.
