What is the top speed for the AC500?

What is a popular and recommended tire for better traction?

Can the AC500 contend with the Bombardier Traxter XT in the mud and water?

What is the difference between the automatic 500 and the manual 500. Do you get a better control of power over the manual vs- the auto?

Thanks!

1. 48-5o mph
2. 27" Titan 589's, 27" Tri/Bi Claws, and 27-28" Outlaws seem to be popular choices in this area. I personally want to use my tax return to get a set of 589's or tri/bi claws but my old 86 Dodge D250 needs air conditioning! Texas is hot.
3.Most certainly. i believe there is a good review of the two side by side right here on the atv connection site under "reviews". I know the cat cost less and is lighter.
4.I think the manual might have a bit more compression breaking. Hopefully some of the other guys on here will reply to that one too. I do a good deal of slow towing and trailering so the manual helps me out there to control my speed and keep the engine in the powerband. you don't have to worry about slipping a belt with the manual. The auto cats do have a very good tranny. Good sealing, constant belt engagement(more braking and quicker rersponse), and a good support bearing for strength.

Well said dakotart!
The cat is well made, powerful and is definitely cheaper than the Bombadier.

The AC500 will top out at an INDICATED 58 mph, BUT a few people here have used a GPS to measure the top speed and get 52 mph.

This website did a shoot out between the XT and 2001 AC 500 manual. They said they were DEAD EVEN. They said the AC 500 has more power(try 22 ft. lbs{30 n/m} for the Traxter-- or 31 ft. lbs{42 n/m} for the Ac 500), it's alot faster, rides better, cost ALOT less, climbs better, but the Traxter does carry things better on its racks(cause of it's stiff suspensoin).

Anything else??
