Default artic cat reliability?

hey guys i normally hang around the suzuki section as i have an old 85 lt230 but i have been talking to someone about buying their 2001 artic cat 250. i believe its 4x4 but not sure and he said that it has just had a bunch of carb work done and runs great, also has a warn winch on it. he said lowest hell take is $1500. is this a good investment and a tough bike? i am planning on doin a lot of mudding/trailriding. would this bike be a good choice or should i keep looking?

Default Good buy?

Hey bud, I have a 06' AC 400 4x4 and I love it... had hardly any issues w/ it. I think the 250's are a little weak in the power dept., but if your only using it for trails & puddle jumping it would be fine. As far as the price...KBB say that a 4x4 is $1150 and the 2x4 is $850. So I don't know if that helps at all but, there ya' go!!

2 friends of mine have a 250 ,year 2000 i believe. one is 4x4 and the other is 2wd. They both have not had any issues whatsoever, except the friend with the 4x4 has had fouled plugs, and starting issues a few times due to lack of maintenance. He usually hands it over to me to take care of it all. Its always the same thing,he lets it sit for months on end in a barn so mice make nests in the air filter housing, gas is bad,and usually needs a plug b/c he fouls it out trying to start it with bad gas. When i clean it out and do HIS maintenance it runs great. I would suggest an after market air filter. I had a 300(same thing basically) and it had a paper type air filter that you could not oil,and my rings were shot after 1200 miles so id look into an after market foam type. If you want deep mud, this is not your bike. Not enough power(12hp) for the tough deep mud holes, nor the ground clearance and they are no speedsters. They will run 50mph but not in a hurry.

The 250's are great bikes. If you do buy it and choose to trail ride it, make sure it has the rear skid plate. Since the motor sits in the back, its prone to getting smacked by rocks and so on and so forth.

Im not sure if the 250 was like the 300,but the front differential on the 4wd 300s CAN go into 4 wheel with differential lock. This will make all 4 wheels spin in 4 wd instead of 3(4 will still turn to a certain point)
