Default 2002 Arctic Cat 400 4x4 Auto or manual?

Ok I was about to get a yamaha kodiak but it was sold so now im looking at a 2002 arctic cat 400 4x4 and on the craigslist post he says it is manual but I see the stick that automatics usually have. So did they make a manual or semi auto 400 4x4 or is it just manual 4x4 where you need to stop and put it in 4. Also is it full time 4x4 or both 4x4 and 4x2.Thanks

it was offered in both auto and manual. 2002 had a push/pull lever for 4wd on the left fender. No locker that year. Dont necessarily have to stop to put it in or take out of 4wd but i always slowed down to around 5mph at least

great running atv, hardly ever heard of any problems with the 400. The only one i can think of was a noise from the belt housing. it was real loud. There fix i think was to tighten a bolt on one of the pulleys on the automatic models. the manual i can honestly say never heard of any issues, but im sure at 10 years old there can always be something, especially if it was or wasnt taken care of. thats the same no matter who makes it,or owned it. good luck let us know what ya get.

I had a foot shift 350 Big Bear and 450 Foreman. Shifting gears on the trail all day gets to be a annoying chore quickly.

That's why 90% of all 4x4 are full automatics now. Not to many semi autos even made now.

Default what are the dimensions

I drive a 250 semi auto now so shifting is not a problem and i heard that the semi auto 400s of that year are a lot faster than the autos which is good so i can keep up with the sport quads but what are the dimensions of this model specifically length so i know if it will fit in a 5 1/2 foot bed with the tailgate down. Thanks

There not a lot faster, There are a few ATVs that came in both foot shift and full auto CVT.
The Suzuki 500 Vinson and 400 Eiger/KQ and they both had the same acceration and top end.

Not the same 4x4 machine but the same motor. I had a foot shift 350 4x4 Big Bear and a now have a 350 Grizzly/Bruin and the CVT Grizzly is actually quicker ,but that may be a gearing thing.

The 500KQ replaced the 500 Vinson years ago and only comes in CVT now. I doubt a 5 speed 500 Vinson would stand much of a chance with a 500 KQ.

If its a gear shift lever you are talking about on the fender, and not the 4wd lever, then it may be the high/low/reverse for the manual transmission. Im pretty sure some of the manual AC's had a shifter identical to the auto shifter there for those operations on the manual.

Cummins Driver is 100% correct. My 400 has the High/Low/reverse lever on the left front fender with the push/pull 4x4 lever below that.

is yours a 2002 model? im thinking yours is newer. The 2002 models had forward and reverse on the fender with a pull/push lever for 4wd and the low/high was a pull up and push forward/reverse lever on the side of the engine. Then again it may have only been the 500 model but i dont think so.
